or "hello dinosaurs" - written in 1337.
last night, i made two huge cartoon dinosaurs out of cardboard
for some dear friends of mine who remember when 1337 was actually elite.
i hadn't actually thought about 1337 in awhile,
until i spotted a poster in their apartment that sported that strange
yet oddly familiar language, that crept into my 'rl'
and still makes me occasionally somewhat incomprehensible to people
who are out of touch with the internet brain viruses of 2003
til (at least for me) around 2006. memes, trends, etc.
and i guess that's how, as my friend pointed out, 'uber' got to be used in a tampon commercial. since i don't watch tv, i wouldn't know what advertisers are luring people with these days, but i had to agree that uber did lose a bit of luster now that the 'mainstream' got it's hands on it. but didn't it belong to everyone anyway? i know someone else who would debate hotly with me (or maybe not anymore, maybe just the him of a few years ago) that 1337 belonged to the pioneers of the MMORG world, or the Quake generation. 1337 was born from a magical mixture of typos, abbreviations, laziness and a twist of wit. it truly was the h4x0rx jargon. and now we have lolcats. or failblog. or something.
ah well. at least i can be silly and recall the g00d 07d d4yx0rx.
so, z & c, i hope you enjoy your truly awesome dinosaur friends.
those pieces were my first of the new year,
and by far the largest yet!
may they preside over your living room with pride
and inspire your guests to not take life so seriously.
